This is an advanced teaching method update course designed for existing firearms instructors to improve their teaching skills with new techniques, including pistol Red Dot optical sights.
 

Students are expected to have far better than average ability to manipulate their assigned

weapons.

By the end of this course, students will have improved their shooting and weapon manipulation skills, be better able to identify and correct marksmanship fundamentals and be better able to run safe and effective range training drills.

Topics to be covered include:
 

  • RED Dot Pistol Optics

  • Evaluation of Range Equipment

  • Documenting Firearms Training

  • Range Training Aids

  • Designing Courses of Fire

  • Range Safety

  • Effective Coaching Techniques

  • Student Presentations

This course complies with the legislative content and mandates of AB 392, SB 230 and PC835a

Throughout the week, each student will be evaluated on the following:
 

  • Firearms Safety

  • Handgun Manipulation Skills

  • Written Communication Skills

  • Effective Coaching Techniques

  • Verbal Communication Skills

  • Positive Attitude

Each student is required to bring the following equipment to the course:

 

  • Duty pistol with Red Dot Optic and 4 magazines and related gear.

  • Magazine carriers and Tactical Vest (if used by agency).

  • Range safety equipment (ear protection, eye protection, hat, etc.)

  • Flashlight & Pistol Weapon Light

  • Body armor (only if required by your agency)

  • Note-taking material & Sharpie

  • 1200 rounds of pistol ammunition &10 dummy rounds

  • Extra batteries

  • Whistle and timing device (i.e. stopwatch)

  • Cleaning equipment

  • Foul weather gear

  • Training aids for their class presentation (Red guns etc…)


 

SUCCESS CRITERIA

To successfully complete this course and be certified as a firearms instructor, each student must:

 

  • Demonstrate safe weapon handling under all conditions at all times.

  • Demonstrate above-average weapon-handling skills.

  • Demonstrate above-average knowledge of their weapons systems.

  • Have the appropriate equipment. (Red Dot and weapon light)

  • Failure to have the above may be cause for dismissal on the first day.

  • Turn in all required assignments timely.

  • Pass the shooting proficiency course of fire with 100% accuracy and no safety violations (Three attempts allowed)

  • Receive average or better evaluations on presentation and communication skills.

  • Pass the final written exam with 80% or better

     

FEE $1,125 range fee payable to: Tactical Firearms Training Institute Inc.

Payment by credit card, check, or Venmo is required a minimum of 30 days in advance of first day of class. Nonrefundable! If a student cannot attend class, the tuition will be put towards future classes.
